Coach Kim Sang-sik's favorite dishes: Pho and bun cha
On the morning of January 9, Thanh Nien Newspaper continued its conversation with Coach Kim Sang-sik at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation. Unlike the interview two days earlier, when Coach Kim mostly talked about football, this time the Korean coach shared more about his life, hobbies, and love for Vietnam.
"I've been here for 7 months. Regarding the weather, environment, or Vietnamese food like pho and bun cha, I am very satisfied. I am living very happily in Vietnam," Coach Kim Sang-sik expressed his feelings.Like many experts who have worked in Vietnam, Coach Kim Sang-sik has been captivated by pho. He admitted: "Before, for about 1 or 2 months, I ate pho every morning. In the future, I will still be addicted to pho. I can eat pho every day!"
According to Coach Kim Sang-sik, Vietnam is a friendly and charming country with diverse food and climate. However, what drives the Korean coach to always strive is the love of Vietnamese fans for football, something Coach Kim felt even when he was a player.
"What impresses me the most is that the people of Vietnam love football, from children to the elderly. I am happy because of that!" Coach Kim Sang-sik shared.
"When I was a player, I played in Southeast Asia and came to Vietnam to compete. I felt the passionate enthusiasm of the fans here. Vietnamese supporters are even more lively than fans in many European countries or in Korea.
The people of Vietnam, from the elderly to the young, seem to radiate a burning passion that is more intense than in other countries, at least to me. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh went to encourage the players in Phu Tho, and he also celebrated energetically with the team. I was happy to see those moments," the Korean coach was impressed.

'It seems some players... are afraid of me!?'
Coach Kim Sang-sik once said he wanted to be like an older brother to the Vietnamese players, not just a teacher. The Korean coach has a "brotherly" management style, typical of his time at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, where he always wanted to close the gap with his players and build the team like a family.
"I always want to be close to the players to bond more with them. There are some players who seem... afraid of me, so it feels a bit hard to approach them. I always want to open up to close the gap with my players. The team has to be like that to be united. In the team, I often joke and have humorous conversations with Tien Linh the most," Coach Kim Sang-sik shared.
The AFF Cup 2024 championship helped Coach Kim have a dream start with the Vietnam national team. After just 6 months in charge during his first time managing a national team, the Korean coach had a "sweet fruit." Thanks to his strong will and determination, Coach Kim Sang-sik built a resilient Vietnam team that overcame all obstacles to defeat Thailand in the final.
